I found quite a few posts with javascript, which I tried and no success. Then I went back to my ideal JavaScript framework J query( Yes I dont like learning all script details when I got J query's accessibility functions) anyway still no luck and then I found this post about hiding "upload Single Documents" options

http://asadewa.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/removing-single-file-upload-menu-from-document-library-toolbar-moss-2007/

And I figured the problem I had with my code. I was not adding the script during the onload event. Anyway below is the modfied code to use for hiding "open in Windows Explorer" and also using spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames to push Function for onLoad event.

<script>

function GetElementByText(tagName, title)
    {
        var a = document.getElementsByTagName(tagName);

        for (var i=0; i < a.length; i++)
        {
            if (a.text)
            {
                if (a.text === title)
                {
                    return a;
                }
            }
        }

        return null;
    }
function hideWinExp()
{
var o = GetElementByText("ie:menuitem","Open with Windows Explorer");
            if (o)
            {
                o.disabled = true;
            }
}
_spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("hideWinExp");

</script>

Note :

replace

= [ i ] no spaces or copy it into text file

Office is used by end users; they are not IT guys so most of them hate new versions of any program.

In many aspects Office 2007 is superior to Office 2003. It uses new formats, it is easy to use, it gives you numerous new features… It also poses a big problem for an end user. The biggest problem is the new interface (ribbons). End user got used to classic menus so they will hate (will not use properly) new interface for months.

Here are some advices for companies that are going to implement SharePoint 2007:

If you are going to implement SharePoint you should also upgrade your current Office to the latest version.

There are some 3rd party solutions that can make your Office 2007 look a like Office 2003. I would strongly advise you against these solutions. Old Office is history and your users will face even more problems with Office 2010 if they do not get use to the new interface. Ribbons are becoming standard part of various office suites like MindManager and others. Ribbons are here to stay

Prepare your end users for the upgrade; invest time in educating and supporting end users. Period after migration will be stressful and hard for them so plan some time for learning and adjustments.

In the following posts I will try to explain what are the potential problems is you stick to Office 2003 (or older).

However, if you can't or won't deploy your code to the WSS server you can also use the WSS Web Services. I must admit that I hardly ever use them, and that I always thought they were not very well documented, but I found some great information here.

The WSS Web Services are part of the Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer namespace. The web services include methods to accessing and customizing SharePoint site content such as lists, site data, forms, meetings, document workspaces, and permissions. The table below shows the WSS web services, including a description of what they can be used for and the reference.

MOSS 2007 also exposes a series of web services. The MOSS web services allow you to use the Business Data Catalog, document management, Enterprise Search, Excel Services, InfoPath Forms Services, and Web content management (WCM). The table below shows most of the web services, there use and the reference you need to use them.

If you want to use one of the SharePoint web serrvices in your visual studio project you can simply add a Web Reference using the path of the SharePoint site for which you want to use the Web Service and add the web service reference to it. Your reference will then look something like this http://[servername]/[sites]/[sitecollectionname]/[sitename]/[subsitename]/_vti_bin/[webservicereference].asmx.

For more information on WSS Web Service look here.

More information on MOSS Web Services can be found here.

Typically, the error is quite generic, but in my case, the problem was caused by including SharePoint controls that relied upon particular querystring entries existing – namely, List=GUID.

So – a bit of background… I am creating an additional list settings page for managing some custom developed stuff – and so I took a copy of an existing list settings page so that I could use the same controls and formatting to get the section effect. In doing this, I left the main content in there (just to prove that I could see my page and it was happy with my code-behind reference), deployed the layouts page to the 12 folder and then pointed straight to it in the browser. In theory this should just work – it was, of course, a simple initial test … but – after adding the OK button event handler to my code-behind class, among other things, I ended up with the error above. After an amount of fiddling around I worked out that the “SharePoint:FormattedStringWithListType” control relies upon the List= querystring entry but doesn’t provide any kind of appropriate message to let you know that’s what the problem is.

I hope this saves you someone some time!
